Speechless after Wordless

Made it to the Wordless Music Series last night. Hey, like how I finally can provide links mid-sentence? Man when I start posting pictures I'm gonna get millions of hits a day! I wanted to see Beirut on their many stops to NYC this fall, including their contribution to this festival, but no luck. I've seen Mum, although I'm sure seeing them again wordless would've done me some good. I'm mad at Grizzly Bear because I was supposed to see them on Conan but tickets were for the first day of the writer's strike, and I can't blame the writers, because workers always deserve more money. OK, I blame the owners. I'm not mad at you any more, Grizzly Bear! They have played this series too. Johnny Greenwood is coming, David Byrne, etc. Anyway, I went last night and missed Cepia. Disappointing, because they sounded good from the church foyer when staff said the show was sold out. Came back, begged and pleaded, and paid to stand, which turned out to actually mean sit. Next was Assaff Weisman, a young piano player who played Haydn's Keyboard Sonata in C Major (a decent but not terribly challenging piece), and then something by Olivier Messiaen: "Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jesus." Unusual, and interesting. Then the main man, Max Richter. It was a combination of film (playing in the background for much but not all of the performance), electronica, and classical music. Parts were quite exhilarating. Oh did I mention this was at a church? Damn did they have a gigantic organ. I shouldn't say damn when talking about a church.
