The Peasants!

Made it to the Bowery Ballroom on Friday for the first time ever. "Didn't you live in New York last summer?" one angry reader didn't write in to ask me. "I thought you were addicted to music?" OK, OK, look. I'm not perfect. I'm still perfecting my addiction! This is a life long problem! Missed the first band, got there during Spinto Band. Some moderately amusing stage banter, and then a song I kinda liked. The only problem was, it was the only song of theirs I heard that I did like. They have excellent hair moving abilities, but not great song writing abilities.

Then Los Campesinos! My pictures are still verboten for posting, but someday, faithful readers, someday I might post them. I just need to get a new computer. It's coming. Soon. February at the latest, and probably earliest. Anyway, I don't think they've released a full length album yet, but they do have an EP. Here's the deal. I like them. They're like a poor man's Architecture in Helsinki. That's not a bad thing. Their songs are fun, they have a weird, somewhat diverse (at least along gender lines) line up, and, like all good bands, they've got a drummer that doesn't wear a shirt. I made that last part up. But if you're gonna come all the way to the U.S., and talk about how humbled you are to play at "The Bow," or so some call it I learned, why not play all night? I guess that criticism means I did enjoy the show since I wanted more, but I also in part didn't like the show because I was left wanting more. They list many influences on their myspace page. I don't feel like providing the link. Anyway, how about covering all of them? When Lily Allen played the 930 club, she covered a few other UK artists she considered cool. And that was cool. Need I talk about Phish? No, because you get the point, smart reader. Attention bands: even if you are all made of 22 year olds and haven't spent a lot of time writing songs yet, you listen to music! Play songs by the artists you like, interpreted in your own musical language! Thank you good day.
