Music + Art = Fun
I read in The New Yorker about a photography exhibit at Morrison Hotel Gallery on the 1969 Rolling Stones tour of the U.S. The whole period thing at the end of an abbreviation is weird. I convinced a few people to join me. We had a baby on her four month birthday. Uptown people. And an out of towner. Hyphens? Whatever. We get there, and two cool pictures are outside on the ledge. One of Mick with his eyes closed, and another with a gang of all stars including Clapton, Keith, and Lennon jamming, probably from Rock and Roll Circus. Inside, there are only a few pictures total, and not all of them are even of the Stones. I enjoy what I see, and at some point notice that there is a sign on the wall stating the Stones exhibit is actually at their loft space down the street. So we all head down the street, and get to the address of what basically looks like an apartment building. One of the units has the gallery's name, so I ring it. Nothing. Ring it again, nothing. Two other people walk up and ask if we're looking for the exhibit. One of them walks back, and a minute or so later is back with a staffperson from the gallery. Apparently they don't keep the exhibit open to the public; you have to ask to be let in. So she unlocks the door, we walk up a flight of stairs, and, to ourselves, we've got a bunch of really cool photographs. Go see it if you can. It's there until January 13.
