Isle of Wight, 1970
I watched this documentary last night. To cut to the chase: pretty disappointing. It didn't capture much in terms of musical highlights, and it failed to capture the alleged tension between free riding fans and the promoters. Joni Mitchell does kinda lose it, a powerful moment. I forgot Leonard Cohen was there! He rules. Joan Baez is a talent too. I'm not sure I've ever seen video of Jim Morrison. He looked ready for dead, smoking a cigarette, heavy beard, little energy. I've seen the documentary The Who released of their set, which is worth watching. Nothing from Sly! That's an unfortunate omission. Emerson Lake and Palmer's performance seemed great, but it was too short. I guess it's tough to make a documentary like this. I would've liked to watch all of Miles Davis's set. Jethro Tull. Tiny Tim. Moody Blues (yawn). Others. I'm glad I watched it, I just wish it was better.
