Third time's a charm
...or a potential claim for stalking. It's not clear. I watched a bit of the Laura Marling video I shot right when I got home. The view is great. But after watching the whole thing on Friday night, a serious problem emerged: tons of idiots blathering at the bar severely mar the sound quality. Sigh. My hopes of selling that sh*t in five years when she's all the rage have been dashed. But it was good enough to inspire the only other human besides me to see it to want to see her final NYC show on Saturday. Could we convince the posse we were traveling with to do so as well? I had given up hope, but I was wrong. We went to Sidewalk, early enough to see Lach, who was totally fun. Then Laura, who played her most self-assured set of the three I saw, including one song not previously played at either gig; she said it was "unfinished." She also left the stage for "White Blank Page" by her accompanist Marcus Mumford. Apparently James Iha was there, so says the blogs that people actually read. I got to say a brief hello to Laura and Marcus after the gig. That makes me famous too, almost.
I watched some of a Stereo Total show from San Francisco in August, courtesy of the Kill Rock Stars podcast. Looked like a fun gig. So people don't just jump on stage at shows in DC, huh?
I also went to see Spring Awakening on Sunday. Winner of the Tony award for Best Musical! I got to see bare a**, but that was about the highlight. Oh actually the scuffle between an obnoxious patron and an usher before the show started was also pretty cool. To paraphrase:
Patron: "I don't need to show you my ticket! I'm rich and you're an usher!"
Usher: "Yes you do."
Patron: "Don't touch me! My Mommy is wearing a coat that costs more than you make in a year!"
Usher: "Can I just please see your ticket? All I'm asking for you to do is show me your ticket."
Patron: "Mommy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
